Jayanan Vincent is a veteran Indian cinematographer born on 12 September 1959(Aged 57). Vincent has captured nearly 200 films in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi and Bollywood travelling from the Black and White era to the Digital era. He is the son of legendary Cinematographer/Director late Aloysius Vincent & elder brother of promising ace cinematographer Ajayan Vincent. He was born in Calicut, Kerala. His grandfather George Vincent was the first man in Calicut to have his own modern kind of studio called ‘Chitra Studio’. He started working as an apprentice in camera department for the film Jyothi (1976). After some struggle, he debuted as a cinematographer in 1978 film Anappachan. Although the film was a flop Vincent found some well-wishers in the industry. After that, Vincent starts to get more chances & ultimately claim his breakthrough for his excellent Camerawork in 1980 Blockbuster Guru, featuring Kamal Haasan. He got overwhelming praise for his camerawork in 1984 film Adiyozhukkukal starring Mammootty & Mohanlal. Vincent won Kerala State film Award for this. Vincent continued exploring new art in camerawork and got recognition in the form of prestigious Nandi Film Awards for in 1999. Vincent suffered a setback after Tokkoro Donga (2002) & took a 7-year hiatus. He earned back his fame after back-to-back success of (2012) & Power (2014). Vincent’s latest work was in Gabbar Singh Returns (2016) where he worked as crew of second unit camera. Vincent has stated Vizag as his most preferred destination for him. He also believes that it is the cinematographers’ duty to present the stars as grandly as the public wants to see. Many wannabe cinematographers in Tollywood film industry look upon Jayanan Vincent as their role model. Vincent has stated that he has very less influence from Hollywood Movies & likes to create original content.
